Russia advances work on 80% of critical oil and gas equipment

Russia is developing or producing about 80% of 220 critical oil and gas equipment categories, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said.

He spoke after a government meeting on import substitution held in St. Petersburg with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

Import substitution aims to replace equipment previously sourced from abroad with domestic products.

The work covers equipment at different stages, from late research and testing to serial production.

Many projects still need to reach commercial use, Manturov said.

He said Russia already has engineering and manufacturing skills that could also serve industries beyond oil and gas.

Combining demand across industries could help factories use their capacity and lower costs for Russian equipment.
