International wheat prices fall after a sharp rise

Wheat prices have fallen on international markets after a sharp rise, while prices in Brazil have remained stable.

In Chicago, the most-traded December contract fell to $6.10 per bushel from $7.04 on October 10.

Global wheat output is forecast to fall to 822 million tonnes in the 2026/27 season, down from 844 million the previous season.

Poor harvests are expected in the European Union, Australia and Canada, while Argentina’s crop estimate has been revised upward.

Brazil is forecast to harvest 5.7 million tonnes, far below its annual consumption of 12 million.

The country will need to import at least 7.1 million tonnes, according to its national food supply agency.

Consumers have not yet seen lower prices: bread rolls in São Paulo rose 1.15% over four weeks and are up 2.7% this year.
