Brisbane unveils 20-year Mount Coot-tha plan without zipline
Brisbane City Council has proposed a 20-year vision for Mount Coot-tha, a popular mountain and visitor area in Brisbane.
The draft plan focuses on improving existing attractions, picnic spots and walking trails, and exploring ways to rehabilitate the quarry.
The proposal does not include a zipline, which had been controversial.
The plan also considers possible ecotourism uses for the Nine and Seven TV studio sites, which are for sale; the mayor says housing will not be allowed there.
The summit would be a priority ahead of the 2032 Olympics, while the plan also aims to protect the area’s natural environment.
The council says more than 4,800 community representatives helped shape the draft, and it will collect feedback over the next four weeks.
The plan is expected to be finalised in mid-2027, after which projects will be costed.

What people are saying
This is a 20-year plan, so it doesn’t have to all be done at once, it can be done in an affordable way.
We engaged with over 4800 community representatives to form a draft vision
This adds to the lord mayor’s shopping list of visions with no plan – such as booze on ferries, buses on ferries, flying Ubers, river taxis and water scooters
