Japan drawn with Russia in 2027 women’s volleyball World Cup

Japan will meet Russia, Argentina and Bulgaria in Group F at the 2027 women’s volleyball World Cup.

The tournament is scheduled for August 20 to September 5 in the United States and Canada, with Japan’s group playing in Omaha, Nebraska.

The World Cup also serves as a route to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with three places going to the highest-finishing teams that have not already qualified.

Japan missed out on an Olympic place at this year’s Asian Championship, so it will be seeking one at the World Cup.

Russia is returning to international volleyball after restrictions on its participation were lifted this year.

The 32 teams will be split into eight groups, and the top two in each group will advance to the knockout stage.

Japan’s group results will help determine its path through the tournament and its chance to qualify for the Olympics.
