Oilers reportedly weigh trade interest in Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly considering a trade for New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli says coach Mike Babcock wants more size and physicality in Edmonton’s forwards, and general manager Stan Bowman is examining the trade market.

Rempe is a 24-year-old Calgary native who is known mainly for fighting and physical play.

He has played 87 NHL games over four seasons, recording five goals, 11 points, 154 penalty minutes and 11 fighting majors.

His limited scoring means he may offer little beyond toughness, and the Rangers are reportedly looking to move on from him.

No trade has been announced, and one account says Edmonton should not offer more than a mid-round draft pick or a modest prospect or AHL player.

If acquired, Rempe would likely play only occasionally, particularly in intense games, rather than every night.
