Woman injured in dog attack at Padua cafe

A dog bit a woman on the head as she sat outside a cafe in central Padua, Italy, on October 12.

The dog, described as an American Staffordshire Terrier, was being walked by a dog sitter when it got away from her.

The woman was taken to hospital, treated for scalp injuries and discharged with a seven-day recovery estimate.

She filed a complaint, and veterinary officials from the local health authority are reviewing the dog and its owner.

The woman said she had encountered the dog before and that it had behaved aggressively toward her; reports also say it had attacked other dogs.

The dog sitter reportedly said the animal was playing, while the cafe owner said it had not caused problems there before.

The woman is considering a civil case against the owner, and the veterinary assessment will determine what action is taken with the dog.
