Analyst says Samsung and SK Hynix shares are worth far less
An analyst valued Samsung Electronics at 70,000 won and SK Hynix at 200,000 won in a television interview aired in South Korea on October 8.
He said the companies’ share gains were driven by a price bubble, not lasting business growth.
He argued that stronger results in memory chips came from companies cutting production and restricting supply, rather than rising demand.
He also claimed currency effects inflated the two Korean companies’ reported operating margins.
On October 15, Samsung shares fell 9.48% and SK Hynix shares fell 11.06%, then both rebounded the next morning.
At 10 a.m.
on October 16, they traded at 215,000 won and 1.289 million won respectively, far above the analyst’s estimates.
His assessment is a personal forecast, not a settled valuation, and no next step was given.
An analyst said Samsung Electronics shares are fairly valued at 70,000 won and SK Hynix shares at 200,000 won.
Lee Juwan said the companies’ share price rises were driven by a price bubble and that their earnings were not sustainable.

The comments drew attention after the shares fell sharply on October 15 and rebounded the next day.

What people are saying
The rise in share prices was entirely driven by a price bubble.
Like a sandcastle, like a mirage, the earnings will disappear and are not sustainable.
Production was reduced, so prices went up. It is an artificially created supply shortage.
I have not been wrong in my predictions once in the past 10 years.
