Fighters beat Lions 4-1 to reach Pacific League final stage

The Nippon Ham Fighters beat the Seibu Lions 4-1 in Tokorozawa, Japan, on Monday.

The win gave the Fighters a 2-1 victory in their best-of-three Pacific League Climax Series first-stage matchup and eliminated the Lions.

Nippon Ham finished third in the regular season, while Seibu finished second.

The Fighters scored first in the second inning, then added runs on Chusei Mannami's home run and Taiki Narama's sacrifice fly.

Starter Hiromi Ito allowed one run in five innings, and four relievers kept Seibu from scoring again.

Nippon Ham will next play the regular-season champion SoftBank Hawks in Fukuoka for a place in the Japan Series.

The Hawks will start the final stage with a two-win advantage because they finished at least 10 games ahead of their opponents in the regular-season standings, and the first team to reach five wins advances.
