Turkey honours consumers and firms at annual awards ceremony
Turkey's Trade Ministry held its 29th Traditional Consumer Awards ceremony at the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, with Trade Minister Ömer Bolat attending.
The awards recognised informed consumers, firms, researchers and media representatives for work promoting consumer awareness and satisfaction.
The ministry says protecting buyers has become more important as online shopping, social media and digital advertising create new ways to mislead them.
Bolat said the Advertising Board resolved about 33,000 advertising cases this year and imposed more than 230 million lira in fines or access restrictions.
He also said the share of products found to be unsafe fell from 32% in 2011 to 1% today, while consumer arbitration committees have settled 19 million disputes since 1995 without court proceedings.
These measures matter because consumer protections can address unsafe products and disputes between buyers and sellers.
The ceremony focused on recognition and awareness; no further steps were announced.
