The Chicks Mark ‘Taking the Long Way’ Anniversary With Storytelling Shows

The Chicks are marking 20 years of their album “Taking the Long Way” with a short tour that includes three shows at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre.

The trio performs all 14 tracks, sharing stories about the songs and showing documentary clips from the album’s creation.

The album followed backlash over Natalie Maines’s 2003 criticism of President George W. Bush, which the band refers to as “the incident.”

Maines told the Los Angeles audience that times had changed and said she would now give Bush a big kiss, adding that they were ashamed of the current president.

The tour coincides with the 2026 US midterm elections, prompting comparisons between the political climate now and the backlash the group faced in 2003 and 2004.

The album won five Grammys, including album, record and song of the year.

The tour’s final show was scheduled for Wednesday after a Monday performance was canceled because of an unspecified illness in the band.
