Young Storytellers Launches Fund Honoring TV Producer Jamie Tarses

Young Storytellers has launched a fund honoring Jamie Tarses, the late television executive and producer.

The Los Angeles nonprofit will use the fund to support arts programs in L.A. public schools.

Its programs pair students with volunteer mentors to help them write original scripts, which professional actors perform on stage.

Tarses helped develop hit shows including Friends and Frasier after joining NBC in 1987.

She later became president of ABC Entertainment in 1996, the first woman to lead a network entertainment division, and was a founding board member of Young Storytellers.

She died in 2021 after suffering a stroke and a coma.

The fund will be celebrated at the group’s annual event on Oct.

29 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
