Ulju County’s free baby-gear rental service draws growing use

Childcare centers in Ulju County, South Korea, are seeing strong demand for baby-gear rentals.

The county’s Ulju and Onsan centers recorded 245 rentals last year and 160 in the first half of this year.

The toy libraries lend costly items that families may need only for a short time as children grow.

Parents most often borrow baby beds and car seats, and the centers currently have 68 items across nine types.

Borrowing is free for up to 12 weeks, and center staff arrange regular professional cleaning for items used outdoors or likely to get dirty.

The centers plan to add car seats, breast pumps and other items in the second half of this year.

Families must join as members and visit a center; they should check its website for available stock because popular items can run out.
