A 36-year-old woman died after a car hit her on Beckett Street in Harehills, Leeds, on Thursday morning.

West Yorkshire Police said a black Vauxhall Corsa had failed to stop for officers on Harehills Road shortly before the collision.

Police authorised a pursuit before the crash at 9.52am, according to the force.

Officers gave emergency medical help at the scene, and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.

The Corsa was found abandoned on Nippet Lane, and police said at least two people left the vehicle.

The force is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage, and has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because of prior police contact.
