Syarikat Islam Congress Opens in Surabaya with Five Economic Priorities

Syarikat Islam opened its 42nd national congress in Surabaya, Indonesia, on 18 October 2026.

The event runs until 20 October and was opened by Ferry Juliantono, the cooperative minister and the group’s secretary-general, and its president, Hamdan Zoelva.

The congress is focused on five pillars: Islamic finance, cooperatives, zakat and waqf, ecology and sustainability, and Muslim entrepreneurship.

The group says it aims to make zakat and waqf management more productive and to expand Islamic financial knowledge and access.

It also wants to establish cooperatives connected to Islamic boarding schools, religious education and places of worship.

The congress is expected to produce strategic decisions intended to benefit Indonesian Muslims and contribute to the wider public; the sources give no further details about what happens after it ends.
