Yangyang County to dredge sand from two fishing ports
Yangyang County in South Korea plans to dredge two fishing ports by the end of this year.
The work will remove 10,458 square metres of accumulated sand from Naksan Port and Dongsan Port, at a cost of 332.1 million won.
Sand buildup has made it harder for fishing boats to enter, leave and anchor safely, as waves and unusual weather continue to carry sand into the ports.
The county will use pump boats to clear the sand and restore suitable water depths, reducing the risk of boats running aground.
The dredged sand will go to nearby beaches facing erosion, helping address both port access and the loss of beach sand.
The work is also intended to make fishing tasks easier and support the coastal landscape and tourism environment.
