Jakarta to Make Public Transport Free for Job Seekers From 2027
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced free public transport for job seekers at a career and employment expo in South Jakarta.
The scheme is due to start on January 1, 2027, and covers transport managed by the Jakarta government.
Job seekers will receive a card to access the free rides, with people who have never worked getting priority.
The access is meant to ease the cost of travelling while looking for work.
People will lose the benefit once they get a job, even if they later want to change jobs.
The government still needs to set out how the scheme will work in detail.
Jakarta plans to make public transport run by the provincial government free for job seekers from 1 January 2027.
Eligible job seekers will receive a special card to access the service.
The policy will prioritise people who have never had a job; people who already have a job and want to change jobs will not qualify.
The measure is part of an expansion of the groups eligible for free public transport, from 15 to 21.
