India weighs list of critical technologies to build domestic capacity
Niti Aayog is preparing a list of critical technologies where India wants to build domestic capabilities.
The aim is to reduce the risk of disruption if access to technologies from abroad is cut off.
The list may include 6G, defence equipment, genomic sequencing and electric-vehicle powertrains.
A government-backed list could help steer private investment, as work to strengthen local capabilities is already under way in many of these areas.
The proposed roadmap could use procurement guarantees and research funding to support domestic products and encourage innovation.
India already has programmes for investment and research, including a ₹1 lakh crore fund for research and development in the private sector.
The final list could be released as early as next month, but officials have not confirmed its publication date.
