Italy plans up to €6 billion in energy aid for businesses
Italy’s government has proposed up to €6 billion in energy support for businesses from 2027 to 2030, as electricity costs rise.
The plan allocates €2.5 billion to energy-intensive companies and €3.53 billion to smaller businesses, including micro, small and medium-sized firms.
Companies must invest at least as much as their aid in reducing energy use and emissions to qualify.
Eligible projects include renewable energy, energy storage, efficiency upgrades and electrifying production.
The GSE will check that companies meet the investment rules and can reduce or reclaim aid if they do not.
The European Commission must approve the support before it can begin, and a future decree will set access rules for smaller firms.
From 2029, part of the funding is due to come from charges on electricity bills, but the plan does not estimate any effect on customer bills.

What people are saying
we can say that the support measure provides for the involvement of the GSE which, in short, will verify that beneficiary companies use the economic resources received for new investments in the transition
we hope the thresholds will not be high so that the pool of businesses is broad and still covers at least the manufacturing activities already provided for energy-intensive companies
