Closed Wildhaus hotel seeks buyer as owner rejects unsuitable offers

The Hotel Toggenburg in Wildhaus, Switzerland, has been closed since October 31 and is now for sale.

Its 80-year-old owner, Paul Beutler, is asking 2.5 million francs and says he wants a buyer who will look after the property.

The three-star hotel has 30 rooms and a large restaurant, and Beutler believes its location beside the ski lifts gives it potential.

The hotel has had a difficult few years: one operator went bankrupt, and a later pair of operators allegedly failed to pay rent or suppliers, causing 150,000 francs in losses.

Beutler says two potential buyers are currently interested, but it is not yet clear whether they can raise the money.

He expects the hotel to remain closed through winter and says he will not run it again himself.
