Brazilian small industries' financial conditions hit a five-year low

Small Brazilian industries' finances fell to a five-year low in the third quarter of 2026, according to a survey by the National Confederation of Industry, or CNI.

The financial conditions index dropped 0.9 points from the previous quarter to 38.5 points out of 100, reflecting views on profits, access to credit and businesses' finances.

The CNI says high interest rates are making credit hard to obtain, and small firms may not get as much as they need.

The industry's performance index also fell 0.9 points, to 44.3, while businesses cited high taxes as their main obstacle.

Confidence improved in October to 46.8 points, but remained below the 50-point threshold for optimism, where it has been for 23 months.

The outlook index also remained below 50, and the survey gives no further forecast.

The credit environment is still very restrictive, mainly because of the high interest rate. Small industries struggle even more to obtain credit and, even when they get access, they do not get the amount they need.
