Bologna cyclist injured after front wheel catches in tram track
On 15 October, Francesca Puppo fell from her bicycle on Via Indipendenza in Bologna after, she says, her front wheel caught in a tram rail.
She says the stretch has four rails about a metre apart, with no cycle lane or warning signs.
The fall injured her knee and a finger, and she has been staying in bed with a knee brace and her finger splinted.
Puppo lives alone on the third floor of a building without a lift, and says a neighbour has been bringing her food.
She also had to cancel an overseas work trip linked to a planned collaboration with a clothing brand.
She is asking Bologna's city administration to protect cyclists before someone is more seriously hurt.
Tram tracks can catch bicycle wheels, particularly when cyclists cross them at a narrow angle.
Some sections now shared with traffic are expected to be reserved for trams once the service is fully operating.
