Authorities Ban Far-Right Events in Paris and Plessis-Robinson
French authorities banned a far-right conference and rally planned for this weekend.
The conference was due to take place Saturday in Plessis-Robinson, and the rally Sunday in Paris; both were organized by the far-right collective Objectif Remigration or its allies.
Officials said they acted at the interior minister’s request because of risks to public order, including after the recent attack in Trappes, in the Yvelines.
The suspect in that attack acknowledged targeting people he perceived as Muslim, African or North African, according to the anti-terrorism prosecutor.
The conference was to focus on “remigration,” a term used by the far right for mass expulsions of people of foreign origin.
Organizers said they had filed urgent legal challenges seeking to overturn the bans.
