Giant pink rubber duck opens Brisbane’s 2026 MELT festival
A 15-metre pink rubber duck has appeared on the Brisbane River beside the Brisbane Powerhouse.
The sculpture was created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, whose giant rubber ducks have appeared in places around the world.
The pink version is making its debut in Brisbane as a symbol of respect and tolerance.
Its arrival marks the start of MELT, Brisbane’s annual queer culture festival.
MELT runs until November 8 with 100 events across 70 venues, including art, theatre, concerts and parties.
The duck will move up the river on Saturday to join the River Pride Parade, then return to the Powerhouse.
It will stay there for the rest of the festival.
