Former Victoria Police forensics officer charged over child abuse material

Former Victoria Police officer Vincent Manner faces 23 charges, including counts of possessing and accessing child abuse material.

Manner, 57, worked as a digital forensics officer from 2016 to 2025, extracting data from devices for use as court evidence.

Police say irregularities in his work led to an audit of cases that might have been affected.

Police assessed at least 112 cases, while Victoria Legal Aid said it knew of at least eight affected cases, almost all delayed.

Police say they have finished reviewing the evidence and notified affected parties, but would not say how many cases were disrupted.

One family's case was delayed four more times during the review, though police later confirmed its digital evidence had not been corrupted.

Manner is due in court in Bendigo on November 4; the charges are allegations, and the case is now before the courts.
