Berlin’s Left, Greens and SPD agree to seek coalition talks
The Left, Greens and SPD agreed to pursue a coalition in Berlin after exploratory talks.
The agreement comes four weeks after the September 20 election, in which the Left won the most votes and the previous CDU-SPD government lost its majority.
All three parties must approve starting formal negotiations before those talks can begin.
The Greens will consider the proposal on Monday, while the Left has scheduled a decision for October 31; the SPD’s decision date was not announced.
The parties had clashed over how to address antisemitism, but they agreed to include a shared text in a coalition agreement.
They also reportedly agreed that real estate companies with more than 10,000 homes could have their properties transferred to public ownership, affecting more than 150,000 homes.
