Greens lead Baden-Württemberg poll as CDU falls and AfD reaches a record
A new poll puts the Greens first in Baden-Württemberg with 30% of intended votes, close to their result in the March state election.
The CDU, the Greens’ partner in the state government, has fallen to 23%, level with the AfD, which rose from 18.8% at the election to a record in this poll series.
The survey was conducted online and by phone among more than 1,100 eligible voters from 8 to 13 October, and its margin of error is about two to three percentage points.
It also found that 58% were satisfied with Green premier Cem Özdemir, while 51% were satisfied with the state government overall.
The results put pressure on the CDU and could encourage it to distance itself from the Greens, potentially straining their coalition.
The next state election is scheduled for spring 2031, and the poll is not a prediction of its outcome.
The Greens lead a new Baden-Württemberg poll with 30 percent, while the CDU and AfD are tied at 23 percent.
The CDU’s support is down from 29.7 percent at the March state election, while the AfD has reached a record level in the poll.
The poll found that 51 percent of respondents were satisfied with the state’s Green-CDU government, and 58 percent were satisfied with Minister-President Cem Özdemir.
Infratest dimap surveyed more than 1,100 eligible voters between October 8 and 13.
The results raise questions about the strength of the governing coalition as the CDU faces pressure and the AfD gains support.
