Drunk driver crashes in Waldshut-Tiengen and is held overnight

A 41-year-old driver crashed in Waldshut-Tiengen in southwestern Germany early on Sunday, 25 October.

He was driving a BMW towards Tiengen when he crossed a traffic island and hit a guardrail, apparently because he was intoxicated.

A breath test showed nearly 1.6 per mille of alcohol, and police arranged a blood test at the hospital.

The driver was slightly injured, while his passenger was not hurt.

Police say the driver insulted officers and emergency workers and was held overnight because he was not fit to travel and did not want anyone to collect him.

The overnight detention was subject to a fee, and no further police action is described.
