Yaduveer opens Mysuru royal Navaratri with golden throne ceremony

The private Navaratri celebrations of Mysuru’s erstwhile royal family began at Mysuru Palace on Sunday.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the family’s titular head and the Mysuru-Kodagu MP, ascended the golden throne during a ceremony called the Khas Durbar.

The family has observed these Navaratri rituals for centuries, and the symbolic durbar is now held only during Dasara.

Before the ceremony, Yaduveer and his wife, Trishikha Kumari Wadiyar, took part in a ritual in which sacred threads were tied around their wrists.

The royal elephant, horse and cow were also included in the proceedings.

Only a select group of invitees witnessed the opening-day ceremony.

The Khas Durbar will continue during the private Dasara celebrations, and the family’s Navaratri rituals will end at the palace on October 21, Vijayadashami.
