India’s film certification board sets stricter rules for applications

India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued new rules for filmmakers applying to have films certified.

The CBFC will accept only complete, final films with finished sound, graphics and any accessibility features intended for theatrical release.

Announced release dates will not speed up certification, including dates for trailers or teasers.

Filmmakers must also be prepared for a film’s title to change during the certification process.

Incomplete submissions may be returned or rejected, causing delays.

The board says certification must follow its normal process and timelines, so it advises producers to plan ahead.
