Indonesian Army Sends Kopassus Death Case to Military Police

A Kopassus officer died after a pistol discharged at an arms store in Kartasura, Central Java, on October 24.

The Indonesian Army has named another officer, identified as Letda Inf AG, as a suspect in the death of Letda Inf Jihad Ahmad Al-Rasyid.

Investigators suspect a failure to follow firearm unloading procedures: AG allegedly cocked the pistol without checking its chamber, with a finger near the trigger.

They examined the scene, CCTV footage and witnesses, and detained AG while sending the case to military police in Surakarta with the pistol, magazine, cartridge case and footage.

AG faces a charge of negligence causing death, which carries a maximum five-year prison term.

The Army has also revoked his parachute, commando and counterterrorism qualifications as an internal administrative sanction.

Military police will handle the case under the law, and the Army says anyone found responsible will be held accountable.
