Turkey detains former minister in market-manipulation probe
Turkey has detained former minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya in an investigation into alleged capital-market offences.
A court in Istanbul ordered her detention after questioning by a unit handling money-laundering cases.
Prosecutors allege she had unpublished information that could affect market prices and are investigating her links to Emre Tezmen, a former investment-fund executive.
The probe is connected to claims that Kaya and her husband made about 2.17 billion lira, or about 783.1 billion rupiah, from investments initially worth 163 million lira.
Much of the investment was in shipbuilder Ozata Denizcilik, whose shares rose sharply before falling as turmoil spread through Turkey’s investment-fund industry.
Her husband was released with a travel ban, while the investigation continues.
