Lionel Scaloni’s mother Eulalia Marzetti dies aged 74

Eulalia Marzetti, mother of Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni, has died aged 74 in Pujato, Santa Fe province.

The Argentine Football Association confirmed her death on Wednesday and sent condolences to Scaloni and his family.

Marzetti had lived in Pujato, the town where Scaloni was born, and her health had been affected by illness for several years.

In 2021, she suffered a stroke and needed hospital care and rehabilitation.

Scaloni dedicated Argentina’s 2021 Copa América title to her, saying she was facing a serious health problem.

Her death closes a long period of health difficulties that Scaloni had spoken about publicly.

A local report says the family plans a private wake.
