Unicaja calls shareholder meeting to vote on extending Rubiales’s CEO term
Unicaja has called an extraordinary shareholder meeting to vote on keeping Isidro Rubiales as its chief executive for another three years.
His current term ends on November 14, and the meeting is expected to take place on November 17, with November 18 as a backup date if attendance is too low.
Rubiales took over in 2023 after replacing Manuel Menéndez, following an internal dispute among the bank’s shareholders.
Shareholders will also vote on renewing independent directors Nuria Aliño Pérez and Inés Guzmán Arrue.
The bank is also preparing for a change in its non-executive chair role, after José Sevilla said he would not seek re-election in 2027; Unicaja is looking for a successor.
The bank reported a record net profit of €361 million through June, up from €338 million in the same period of 2025, and increased its interim dividend by 28%.
Unicaja is pursuing growth on its own, including talks to buy part or all of WiZink Bank, while its stated plan focuses on expanding business and consumer banking.
Unicaja has called an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting to vote on re-electing Isidro Rubiales as chief executive for a three-year term.
Rubiales’s current mandate expires on 14 November.
The meeting is expected to take place on 17 November, with a second call scheduled for 18 November if there is not enough quorum.
