Foreign investors pull ₹48,056 crore from Indian equities in October

Foreign portfolio investors withdrew ₹48,056 crore from Indian shares in October so far, adding to withdrawals of ₹35,861 crore in September.

These investors buy and sell shares in India from abroad, and their withdrawals in 2026 have reached ₹3.08 lakh crore, more than the full-year total for 2025.

High oil prices, inflation concerns and weak corporate earnings have contributed to the selling, while high US interest rates make American investments more attractive.

The ₹30,213-crore Jio Platforms IPO also temporarily drew liquidity from the market, but domestic investors have helped cushion the impact.

Selling eased in the week ending October 23, when foreign investors bought shares on two trading days, offering some relief but not ending the outflows.

Investors will watch crude prices, company earnings, US economic data and upcoming US Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan interest-rate decisions for clues about what happens next.
