Glenn Maxwell retires from international cricket

Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket after 286 appearances for Australia.

The 38-year-old also ended his first-class and List A careers, but will keep playing for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.

Maxwell had already retired from one-day international cricket last year.

His last appearance for Australia was against Oman at the 2026 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, where he took two wickets.

He said Australia’s plans to give younger players international experience helped shape his decision.

Maxwell scored 7,226 runs, made 10 international centuries and took 136 wickets for Australia.

He won the one-day World Cup with Australia in 2015 and 2023, and will not get the hoped-for farewell game against England at the MCG.
