Street Fighter Leads a Weekend of Major North American Film Releases

Street Fighter opens in more than 3,500 North American theaters this weekend, with Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji and Callina Liang starring in the video game adaptation.

Paramount projects a domestic opening in the mid-$30 millions, with a similar amount expected internationally.

A24’s You Can See Everything follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes ahead of the start of her prison sentence and is projected to earn about $7 million from around 800 theaters.

The other newcomers include Whalefall, a survival thriller about a diver swallowed by a whale, and a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility.

The releases face different expectations: Whalefall is projected to earn $10 million to $12 million, while Sense and Sensibility is projected to take in $8 million domestically.

The figures are studio forecasts, not final box office results, and the weekend’s ticket sales will show how audiences respond to the competing films.
