Italy plans personalized vehicle plates for €600

Italy’s government has proposed paid personalized plates in its 2027 budget bill.

Drivers would be able to choose letters and numbers for cars and motorcycles.

The option was already written into Italy’s road code in 2002, but it was never put into effect because the necessary rules were missing.

The proposed fee is €600 for cars and €360 for motorcycles, with part of the payment going to the state printing agency and part to the transport ministry.

Offensive, ambiguous and duplicate combinations would be barred under the plan.

The change could give vehicle owners more choice while bringing in money for the government.

The scheme cannot start until implementing rules are issued, and no start date is given.
