Dayton ISD bus driver arrested after boy is critically injured in hit-and-run

A 14-year-old boy was critically injured in a hit-and-run near U.S. Highway 90 and Stilson Road in Dayton, Texas, on Friday morning.

Police said a school bus struck the boy and its driver left without stopping to help.

Police arrested 70-year-old Dayton ISD bus driver Ricky Eugene Cherry in connection with the crash.

The boy, identified by his family as Brantley, is being treated at Texas Children’s Hospital.

The crash left the boy fighting for his life, and his family said they are devastated.

Reports differ on whether specific charges have been confirmed; one says jail records list a charge of collision causing serious bodily injury.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police have asked anyone with information to contact the Dayton Police Department.
