Mahle proposes 170 job cuts at its Cuenca factory

Mahle has proposed cutting 170 jobs at its factory in Motilla del Palancar, in Spain’s Cuenca province.

The proposed cuts would affect about 35% of the factory’s current workforce.

The plant already lost 466 jobs in a previous round of cuts.

Mahle says a downturn in the car industry and fewer orders are behind its latest plan, especially in electric mobility.

Unions say the company failed to pursue new projects it had promised to seek for the factory.

They warn that the plant is a major industrial centre for the province and that further cuts could harm the wider area.

The unions will now negotiate to try to prevent or reduce the job losses and are calling for public demonstrations.

It is an outrage that Mahle’s management has shown such a lack of work, foresight and management, after committing a year ago to seek alternatives to develop new projects in Motilla.
