BodyBlendz accused of using other brands’ images, possibly altered with AI
Skincare brand BodyBlendz is accused of using images made for other brands without permission, possibly altered with artificial intelligence.
Sydney photographer Lucy Alcorn says images on BodyBlendz’s Instagram closely resembled her work for Australian skincare company Luna Bronze.
UK sunscreen brand Stil Suncare also raised concerns, and an Australian reality TV star has previously alleged the brand used her picture without consent.
BodyBlendz removed several posts after the concerns were raised, and privately apologised in one message for imagery that appeared to use an original post.
The accusers say they did not take legal action because the cost was too high compared with possible compensation.
They say Australia needs easier ways to protect creative work, including small claims courts for copyright disputes.
The government is consulting on possible copyright changes as part of its work on artificial intelligence safeguards, but the next steps are not specified.
