Frieze London Opens With Strong Sales, Including a $6.5 Million Brueghel
Galleries reported strong sales on the first day of Frieze London and Frieze Masters in Regent’s Park, London.
At Hauser & Wirth, more than 20 works sold across the two fairs for a reported total above $11 million.
A 17th-century Jan Brueghel painting sold for about $6.5 million at Frieze Masters, where the works on offer tend to be historical.
Sales also included contemporary works by artists such as Avery Singer, George Condo and Lee Bul.
The sales brought historic and contemporary art together, with one gallery representative saying some collectors of traditional art are also looking at contemporary works.
