Radio 2 staff say Sara Cox’s on-air criticism leaves them uneasy

Radio 2 staff say they feel uneasy working with Sara Cox because she calls out mistakes during live broadcasts and identifies those responsible.

Cox took over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show in July, after Scott Mills was sacked in April.

A recording from August features Cox singling out producer Anthony during a segment involving a microphone problem.

Some staff say she could have joked about the mistake without making clear that it was not hers.

They say the practice harms team spirit, and compare it with former presenters Zoe Ball and Mills, who they say joked about their own mistakes.

Mills was dismissed after historical allegations of serious sexual assault against a teenage boy emerged; the case was investigated by police in 2018 and dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2019.

Mills has taken legal action against the BBC for unfair dismissal, while the account gives no next step in the dispute over Cox’s on-air approach.

Everybody is on edge because she keeps pulling people up when there is a mistake that goes out on air and then throwing them under the bus, it's unfair and not part of the team spirit.
