Pillars of Eternity games get full PC controller support in public test
Obsidian has opened a public test of full controller support for Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire on PC.
Players can use controllers throughout both games, from character creation to the end, including Deadfire’s naval combat.
The test supports Xbox and PlayStation controllers, Steam Deck and Steam Big Picture, and lets players switch between a controller and mouse and keyboard.
Deadfire’s turn-based combat has also been reworked to use character speed for turns, make fights more lethal and allow weapon swaps or potion use without spending an action.
These changes build on improvements to the turn-based mode in the first Pillars of Eternity game, and the update also includes other fixes.
The public test may contain bugs, so players should expect some rough edges while Obsidian gathers feedback and prepares a full release.
The sources differ on when testing ends: one says it runs until November 25, while the other says no end date has been set.

What people are saying
You can now play the whole of either game with a controller, from character creation to the end credits (and, in Deadfire, all the way out to naval combat), in both real-time with pause and turn-based mode
Deadfire’s turn-based mode has also been reworked with the improvements we made for Pillars of Eternity’s turn-based mode: turns now follow each character’s speed, combat is more lethal, and swapping weapons or drinking potions no longer costs your action.
This is a public test, so please expect bugs
