APA commits $700 million to build Bulloo gas pipeline
APA Group approved $700 million for a new gas pipeline in eastern Australia, called the Bulloo Interlink Pipeline.
It will connect Queensland’s South West Queensland Pipeline with the Moomba to Sydney Pipeline in New South Wales.
The pipeline is planned to carry up to 800 terajoules of gas a day, adding capacity to APA’s East Coast Gas Grid.
The project is intended to ease transport bottlenecks and help meet expected gas demand in southern markets into the 2030s.
Origin Energy has signed a five-year gas transport and storage deal with APA, with payments linked to inflation and a take-or-pay commitment.
APA says the project will support energy security and provide contracted revenue.
Construction is expected to start in early 2027, subject to approvals, with commercial operation targeted for winter 2029.
APA is now working on environmental approvals, pipeline design and procurement.

What people are saying
Delivery of the BIL is critical to east coast energy security, unlocking the significant volumes of gas available in Queensland and the Northern Territory and complementing our earlier ECGG investments.
The BIL is designed to ensure pipeline capacity is not a constraint to meet projected gas demand for Australia's southern states later this decade and into the early 2030s.
