Brazil mini-index rises as overbought reading signals caution
Brazil's October mini-index futures rose 0.79% to 208,725 points in the latest session, on October 9.
The contracts followed the Ibovespa, Brazil's main stock index, which gained 1.38% and set a record high during the session.
The Ibovespa rose 8.82% over the week, with support from lower futures interest rates and gains in major companies and sectors.
Traders will watch whether buying continues when trading resumes on Tuesday, as well as movements in interest rates, key shares and international markets.
The futures remain above key moving averages, a sign that the broader price trend still favors buyers.
But the 14-period RSI, a measure of recent price momentum, stood at 77.39, in overbought territory.
That reading signals a stretched rally and possible profit-taking, but is not by itself a sign that prices will reverse.
Brazil’s October mini-index contracts rose 0.79% in the latest session, closing at 208,725 points.
The analysis said the contract could test higher levels if it breaks resistance, but warned that the market is overbought and vulnerable to profit-taking.
The 14-period Relative Strength Index stood at 77.39, in overbought territory.
The Ibovespa rose 1.38% to 209,066.90 points and reached a record intraday high of 209,713.45.
