John Mayer launches Sob Rock Records with Mercury partnership

John Mayer has launched his own label, Sob Rock Records, in partnership with Mercury Records.

The label takes its name from his 2021 album, released before he parted ways with Sony in 2022.

“Tom and Jerry” is his first new solo single in five years, and it is due at midnight as Thursday turns to Friday.

Mayer’s SiriusXM channel, Life With John Mayer, will play a preview throughout Thursday.

The single marks a return to solo recording after years that included his work with Dead & Company.

No new album has been announced.

Mayer is also booked for a 2027 Las Vegas Sphere run, with sets as a solo artist, with a full band and with the John Mayer Trio.
