South Korea’s Democratic Party to pursue inquiry into chief justice

Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok says his party will proceed with plans concerning Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae of South Korea’s Supreme Court.

He said the party would move step by step, including a parliamentary investigation.

The debate followed a court’s acquittal of Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon on appeal in a case involving the political funds law.

Kim had called that ruling difficult to understand, and some governing-party figures have called for Cho’s impeachment.

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk criticized the focus on Cho, calling it a theory that blames him for everything.

Party members are still coordinating the investigation’s schedule, and Kim did not say when it would proceed.
