Indonesia’s Economic Council Gives Prabowo Seven Recommendations

Indonesia’s National Economic Council presented President Prabowo with seven economic recommendations at a meeting in Jakarta on October 20.

One proposal is a digital system for social assistance, which the council says could make aid more transparent and better targeted.

The system has been tested across all 514 districts and cities, with 11.5 million households registered, and is due to launch on November 10.

The council’s review of the free nutritious meals program found that recipients missed school less often and were more eager to learn.

But the meals program reaches more urban and wealthier students, so the council says poorer and rural communities should get more attention.

To prepare for El Niño and La Niña, it recommended planning food stocks and planting schedules, as well as preparing pumps for areas at risk of drought.

The meeting also covered industrial processing, energy security and forest and land fires, but the council’s next stated step is the social assistance system’s launch on November 10.
