Microbusinesses With Business IDs to Join Indonesia’s Kadin Automatically
Indonesia plans to make microbusiness owners automatic members of Kadin, the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The plan covers owners who have a Business Identification Number, or NIB, and membership would be free.
The change will take effect only after parliament’s revision of the 1987 Kadin law is completed; the revision is still being discussed with the government.
Kadin membership is intended to give microbusinesses access to business development programs, guidance and wider entrepreneurial networks.
The aim is to connect businesses of all sizes, so larger firms can help smaller ones grow.
Kadin chair Anindya Bakrie says the organization wants to reach more than 60 million business owners across Indonesia, 97 percent of whom are MSMEs.
Kadin says helping MSMEs grow is important to Indonesia’s effort to escape the middle-income trap.
