UN Security Council condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

The UN Security Council condemned escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and called for them to stop.

The strikes included attacks on civilian aviation and energy infrastructure, causing deaths and injuries.

A statement cited strikes on King Khalid International Airport on October 10 and 11, as well as other airports and Saudi Aramco facilities.

The council also condemned threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, key routes for vessels.

It called for the Houthis to stop attacks on civilians and civilian sites and urged cooperation to prevent them obtaining weapons, funding and military support.

The council affirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defence under international law and backed Yemen’s government.

It also renewed support for UN envoy Hans Grundberg’s efforts to negotiate a comprehensive political settlement led by Yemenis.
